Annual NJBDA Symposium
Each year the NJBDA hosts a symposium which provides a forum for industry, government and academic experts to discuss the latest trends, current research, industry needs, strategies and mechanisms to address big data, cyberinfrastructure and advanced computation challenges and opportunities.
The 11th Annual NJBDA Symposium will be held in person on May 17, 2024 at Rutgers University.

10th Annual Symposium
Seton Hall University
The 10th Annual NJBDA symposium took place on May 9, 2023, hosted by Seton Hall University. The theme of the event was Big Data in FinTech. Keynote speakers were Kjersten Margaret Moody, Chief Data Officer, Prudential; George Calhoun, Professor and Founding Director of the Quantitative Finance Program, Stevens Institute of Technology; and Marc Rind, Chief Technology Officer – Data, Fiserv. 9th Annual Symposium
New Jersey Institute of Technology
The 9th Annual NJBDA symposium took place on May 9, 2022, hosted by the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The theme of the event was Building the Workforce Pipeline for a Data-Driven Economy. Keynote speakers were Stephen Ezell, Vice President, Global Innovation Policy, Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) and Florence D. Hudson, Executive Director, Northeast Big Data Innovation Hub at Columbia University. 8th Annual Symposium
Princeton University
The 8th Annual NJBDA symposium took place on April 29 and 30, 2021 virtually, hosted by Princeton University. The theme of the event was: Smart State: Big Data for Community Impact. Keynote speakers included Stephen Goldsmith, Derek Bok Professor of the Practice of Urban Policy, Harvard Kennedy School and Tara Dawson McGuinness, Fellow and Senior Adviser of the New Practice Lab, New America. The symposium also included panel discussions for municipal practitioners and academic researchers, workshops, and cutting-edge research presentations on topics such as smart cities, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and more. 7th Annual Symposium
Kean University
The 7th Annual NJBDA symposium took place on November 13, 2020 virtually, hosted by Kean University. The event delved into the complex ethical issues surrounding data and public health in combating the Covid-19 pandemic. Keynote speakers included Carmel Shachar, JD, MPH, Executive Director, Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School and Dr. Elissa M. 6th Annual Symposium
New Jersey City University, Jersey City, NJ
The 6th Annual NJBDA symposium, took place on April 5, 2019 at New Jersey City University. The theme of the event was The Future of Big Data: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The symposium focused on the impact and potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning to transform business operations and drive new innovations and discoveries. Keynote speakers included Dr. Manish Parashar, Director, Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure, National Science Foundation and Dr. Chris White, Leader, Algorithms, Analytics, Augmented Intelligence, Nokia Bell Labs. The symposium also included cutting-edge research presentations on topics such as Deep Learning systems, data-driven behavior, improving search tools, competitive strategy frameworks, and more.
5th Annual Symposium
The College of New Jersey, Trenton, NJ
The 5th Annual NJBDA symposium and 1st Statewide Data Science Career Fair, “Big Data: Transforming Tomorrow’s Workplace,” took place on April 30, 2018 at The College of New Jersey.
The impact and potential of big data in transforming business operations and employee roles was explored! State and academic resources designed to build New Jersey’s talent pipeline in the digital age was discussed, as well as discovering best practices for leveraging advanced computing technologies and big data skills as a competitive advantage.
4th Annual Symposium
New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ
The 4th Annual NJBDA symposium, “Big Data Connects,” took place on March 16, 2017 at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Big Data Connects delved into the ways in which Big Data has become integral across numerous sectors, and how it is transforming day-to-day life.
3rd Annual Symposium
Montclair State University, Montclair, NJ
The 3rd Annual NJBDA symposium, “Big Data and Innovation,” took place at Montclair State University on March 9, 2016.
The symposium featured Andrew AJ Bubb, the US lead for Accenture’s Emerging Technology Wearables and Industrial Internet of Things Practices, and featured panels examining:

2nd Annual Symposium
Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ
The 2nd Annual NJBDA Symposium took place at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ on April 29th, 2015.
The symposium, titled “Big Data and the Transformation of Society,” featured Raymond Blum, International Man of Mystery at Google, and highlighted ways in which Big Data is revolutionizing the transportation and healthcare sectors, as well as its implications for privacy and its impact on the New Jersey workforce.
1st Annual Symposium
Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ
The 1st Annual NJBDA Symposium titled, “Partnerships in Big Data: Pathways to Transformative Innovation in NJ,” took place at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ on April 23rd, 2014.
The symposium was used to broaden statewide awareness of the NJBDA and provided a forum for policy makers and individuals from New Jersey industry and academia to learn more about the challenges and opportunities associated with “Big Data.”
