The New Jersey Big Data Alliance (NJBDA) is excited to unveil the lineup of distinguished keynote speakers and the comprehensive program agenda for the upcoming 2024 NJBDA Annual Symposium, hosted by the Rutgers Bloustein School on May 17th, 2024 at the Douglass Student Center. This premier event promises to be an unparalleled opportunity for industry leaders, researchers, and stakeholders to explore how AI will transform higher ed teaching and learning, how university leaders can effectively leverage and manage AI, AI misuse, the expanding digital divide, data bias and ethical implications. This year’s theme is Artificial Intelligence Impacts on Society & Higher Education.

Keynote Speakers:

Sherry Marcus, Director of Amazon Bedrock Science, Amazon Web Services, will deliver a keynote address on “AI Impacts on Society,” providing insights into the transformative role of artificial intelligence in shaping various aspects of our lives.

Shiren Vijiasingam, Chief Product Officer, Instructure, will present a keynote address titled “AI Impacts on Higher Education,” delving into the implications of AI technologies on the future of learning and academia.

Program Highlights:

The symposium will feature a dynamic program designed to facilitate engaging discussions, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities. Highlights include:

  • Research Workshops: Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in concurrent workshops on: 
    • Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), and Generative AI, led by experts Meng Ye from SRI International and Jim Samuel from Rutgers University; or 
    • Design Justice AI, led by experts Lauren Goodlad and Matthew Stone from Rutgers.
  • Panel Discussions: Two insightful panel discussions will explore the implications of AI on:
    • AI skills for a transforming workforce, with notable panelists Justin Trugman from BetterFutureLabs, Melanie Murphy (formerly of Fluent), Doug Vargo from CGI, and Sriram Sridhar from Genmab
    • AI impacts on teaching and research, with notable panelists Wade Trappe from Rutgers, Vishal Misra from Columbia University, Sonia Yaco from Rutgers University, and Juan Rios from Seton Hall University.
  • The symposium will conclude with the presentation of the Journal of Big Data and AI (JBDAI) awards and awards for best student posters.
